Glad I could help Frank, To answer your question you have to take the needle out through the top of the carb.....dont touch the Bowl. Next remove the screws and then remove it(top cover). Then the cover will come off with a large spring under it. Then remove the slide from under that this will expose the slide. After that there is a small single screw inside the slide at the bottom of it. Remove this and the needle will come out,remember the way the holes and the spring line up in the slide,the spacer is at the top of the needle.
ok....now leave spacer out and reassemble. To do all of this of course you have to remove the seat, there are only 2 bolts to do that. But anyway the jet question: Jets are mainly used for mid-to high end fuel delivery,the slow speed mixture is controlled by the needle above. Removing the spacer makes this mixture a little less lean. When the bike is run lean do to the spacer the engine will overheat,causing stumbling at cruising speeds.
